Toothache Home Remedies
A toothache, also known as odontalgia is an aching pain in or around a tooth. In most cases toothaches are caused by problems in the tooth or jaw, such as cavities formed when bacteria breaks down the tooth’s enamel, gum disease, the emergence of wisdom teeth, a cracked tooth, infected dental pulp which may result in tooth extraction, jaw disease, or exposed tooth root. Causes of a toothache may also be a symptom of diseases of the heart, such as angina or a myocardial infarction, due to referred pain.
Toothache can result in the pain in the area of your jaw and face caused from some form of irritation or inflammation. Each tooth contains soft spongy tissue with sensitive nerves and blood vessels known the dental pulp. The pulp cavity is surrounded by layers of hard tissue to protect it. The outermost layer is called enamel, which is very hard. When the pulp within the tooth becomes inflamed it causes toothache.
A dental visit is usually recommended at any sign of toothache and treatments will vary depending on the root of the problem. If toothache is left untreated, the pulp inside the tooth will die and become infected. This will lead to a dental abscess forming, and severe and continuous throbbing pain. Untreated toothache may also lead to blood poisoning.
